Hey everyone. We thank you for all of the wonderful videos you have uploaded.
We ask that if you have a video you would like to share with the Better Way community that you upload the video directly to this site, as opposed to copying and pasting the code from another website. This will likely result in many more views to your video, and will avoid stamping the watermark of another website on your video - which is silly really, since we don't own a piece of any other video websites. . .

About six months ago, when the phrase “gluten free” was still quite new to my husband Shane and I, my mom and nephew came to visit us. We wanted to go out to dinner but had some trepidation due to Shane’s gluten allergy. After deliberating a bit, we concluded there would have to be some options available if we chose wisely from the menu. So we decided on Elephant Bar, a newcomer to our area with reasonable prices and a cool vibe. Shortly after being seated, my husband decided on a bun-less chees…

Creating your own show isn't as difficult as you may think...I know, if you don't know what your doing it can be a pain...first is equipment, who has a HD camera around? Next...Set, location, location(nothing worse than a gross kitchen or clutter to take away from your moment). Prepping is always critical, having everything ready and in order is helpful in your delivery of the recipe. Lastly, cook something you've made before, there is nothing worse than pulling out the end result and have it be…

Having a food allergy of any kind makes it a challenge to dine out and it is particularly difficult when someone has a gluten allergy or celiac disease. Since gluten can be found in so many different foods, such as sauces and dry rubs, seemingly innocent foods can cause a problem due to what they're cooked with. In addition, there are cross-contamination concerns. You might order a salad with an oil-and-vinegar dressing that’s safe but if it’s tossed in a bowl that was previously inhabited by a…

My husband and I are currently involved in the very interesting process of dealing with a dietary restriction, namely his intolerance to gluten. Gluten is a protein found in many grains such as wheat, barley and rye. I will probably get into more scientific tidbits about this ubiquitous protein in the future but my purpose in starting this blog is to discuss more of the personal side of dealing with a food allergy. Because food has very profound effects on our lives – first and foremost, surviva…

I never thought much about milk until I started becoming a Health Nut. Now I know that homogeniszed milk is actually dangerous for us to drink and it serves no health purpose for people.
If milk (non-homogenized) is left to stand overnight, the cream rises to the top. This is good because the amount and color of the cream have always been the measure of milk quality.
Homogenization forcefully bl…

Diversification is often a critical component for a thriving business; however it is imperative that every company keeps their focus on their mission. Unfortunately many small business owners and mangers rarely have a mission to begin with, let alone a focus. I believe that Better Way Gourmet could very well fall prey to this conundrum in the name of diversification if we do not occasionally regroup and ask ourselves some important questions. Who are we? What do we do? What is our purpose? How a…

I'm always astounded by the way other businesses will try to duplicate someone else’s model regardless of whether or not it’s a viable concept.
Over the past 2 years we've been testing multiple concepts and strategies in order to fine tune the Better Way Gourmet business model in preparation for our official launch. We've had quite a number of good ideas and others not so good. Never the less, without fail, every time we make an adjustment to our strategy invariably someone tries to duplicate i…

Many people often wonder and ask about the complexities of cooking. "How do you cook this? How do you cook that?" I'm often asked by family, friends, neighbors, and even chefs. My response is always the same, "apply heat". While seemingly elementary, this essential fundamental will save you years of frustration and boost your confidence to a level that will allow you to explore new culinary territory without fear of destroying dinner.
Allow me to explain. If you bake, broil, grill, poach, sauté…

My birthday went well. It started on Wednesday and lasted until Sunday.
Wednesday - Cake Night
My wonderful wife made me some awesome triple-chocolate cupcakes that we shared with our neighbors (Thanks for coming neighbors!). Well actually they were double chocolate but that doesn't sound quite as gourmet. Made with super dark chocolate, they were quite tasty. Thanks Sharon!
Thursday - Comic Pizza
The next day involved a trip to
Giordano's pizz…

Tomorrow is my birthday so I think I'll take a couple of days off, especially since my health has been extremely poor lately. I could probably use a break. We're planning on visiting Giardano's for some Chicago style pizza followed by a local comedy show - if I'm well enough that is.

Finally, most of the new social community portion (which is a rather large portion indeed) of the BWG site is built. After that's finished all of the profiles will need to be migrated to the new site - Another daunting task but fortunately no programming code to speak of. Then we'll just need to work the bugs out of the new system. I'll be releaved when this project is complete. It's going to be much better than the first, so it will be well worth the effort and the cost. I'm excited.
Well, it'…
