One of the things I like best about living near Disney World is that gluten free dining is less than an hour’s drive away. My husband Shane and I have eaten all around the World both before and… Continue

I was simply not in the mood to make my own flour blend for gluten free bread this weekend. And my husband is now eliminating soy from his diet which means our staple soy flour is out of the question, at least for a while. So I headed to Whole Foods and found only one bread mix that met all of the current dietary criteria - free of gluten, soy and dairy - and that was Namaste Gluten Free Bread Mix.…

The average daily caloric intake for a woman is 2,000 calories while the average for a man is slightly more. Imagine ingesting your entire daily allowance with just one beverage.
Well Cold Stone Creamery's PB & C shake somehow packs not only that many calories into each shake, but also an astounding 131 grams of fat, and 153 grams of sugar. It even beat out McDonald's "Triple Thick" which…

Thanks to a tweet on Twitter, I got word of a gluten-free cookie give-away by Wow Baking Company and filled out their request form online at www.wowbaking.com. Their chocolate brownie was not an option but since it was the one I wanted to try, I did what any self-respecting chocolate lover would do…

By David Zinczenko, with Matt Goulding
Somewhere between the brick ovens of Italy and the delivery cars of America something went horribly wrong. The traditional pizza, made with just bread, cheese and tomatoes, is now tricked out with inflated crusts, four-cheese toppings, and a surplus of pepperoni, all of which contribute to its quadrupled caloric count. And man, do we love it. With 69,000 pizza joints scattered across the U.S., it's no wonder that each man, woman and child…

I must admit that I am taking a few minutes to gripe. My complaint? The outrageous pricing on some gluten-free products. I am not talking about foods that are naturally free of gluten like fruits, vegetables, or rice. It is easy enough for us to purchase these at the same price as everyone else. I mean the specialty foods that market themselves as gluten-free – cereals, cookies, crackers, pasta, baking mixes, breads, etc.
There are things I…

Much can be and has been said about Wal-Mart and people either usually love or hate this ubiquitous retailer. From the gluten-free perspective, I have to give credit to them – Wal-Mart unexpectedly rocks. For months now, my husband and I have been pleased to discover that most of the
Great Value store brand products are either labeled gluten-free or state that they contain wheat and/or are processed in a facility that handles wheat. This is a…

- WEDNESDAY, May 27 (HealthDay News) -- Drinking too much cola can increase the risk of a muscle problem called hypokalemia, experts warn.
In people with hypokalemia, a drop in blood potassium levels results in problems with vital muscle functions. Symptoms can range from mild weakness to serious paralysis, say Greek researchers who conducted a review of people who drank between two to nine liters of cola a day.
Two of the patients…

Hey everyone. We thank you for all of the wonderful videos you have uploaded.
We ask that if you have a video you would like to share with the Better Way community that you upload the video directly to this site, as opposed to copying and pasting the code from another website. This will likely result in many more views to your video, and will avoid stamping the watermark of another website on your video - which is silly really, since we don't own a piece of any other video websites.…

About six months ago, when the phrase “gluten free” was still quite new to my husband Shane and I, my mom and nephew came to visit us. We wanted to go out to dinner but had some trepidation due to Shane’s gluten allergy. After deliberating a bit, we concluded there would have to be some options available if we chose wisely from the menu. So we decided on Elephant Bar, a newcomer to our area with reasonable prices and a cool vibe. Shortly after being…

Creating your own show isn't as difficult as you may think...I know, if you don't know what your doing it can be a pain...first is equipment, who has a HD camera around? Next...Set, location, location(nothing worse than a gross kitchen or clutter to take away from your moment). Prepping is always critical, having everything ready and in order is helpful in your delivery of the recipe. Lastly, cook something you've made before, there is nothing worse than pulling out the end result and have it be…

Having a food allergy of any kind makes it a challenge to dine out and it is particularly difficult when someone has a gluten allergy or celiac disease. Since gluten can be found in so many different foods, such as sauces and dry rubs, seemingly innocent foods can cause a problem due to what they're cooked with. In addition, there are cross-contamination concerns. You might order a salad with an oil-and-vinegar dressing that’s safe but if it’s tossed in a bowl that was previously inhabited by a…

My husband and I are currently involved in the very interesting process of dealing with a dietary restriction, namely his intolerance to gluten. Gluten is a protein found in many grains such as wheat, barley and rye. I will probably get into more scientific tidbits about this ubiquitous protein in the future but my purpose in starting this blog is to discuss more of the personal side of dealing with a food allergy. Because food has very profound effects on our lives – first and foremost,…
