Better Way Gourmet

I'm always astounded by the way other businesses will try to duplicate someone else’s model regardless of whether or not it’s a viable concept.

Over the past 2 years we've been testing multiple concepts and strategies in order to fine tune the Better Way Gourmet business model in preparation for our official launch. We've had quite a number of good ideas and others not so good. Never the less, without fail, every time we make an adjustment to our strategy invariably someone tries to duplicate it.

I recall one small example of this was when I decided to change the color scheme of our website. In just 2 weeks one of our "competitors" changed there's identically. I mean they used the exact same hexadecimal code . . .

Another was when we decided to examine the viability of adding "grocery delivery" to our enterprise arsenal. In less than a month, 3 companies (that watch us closely) implemented the same. Our test results swiftly generated a negative outcome, and it became quite apparent that this was a bad idea on multiple levels - the rising costs of fuel being the biggest. We dropped it fast, and they're still trying to make it work. Some businesses have based their entire model around the concept of grocery delivery and appear to be doing it successfully. That depends on one's definition of success.

What's most unfortunate about this scenario is that some of these companies have a good thing going, but in an effort to keep up and stay "competitive" they lose their focus. I guess the moral of the story is that plagiarizing someone else’s idea may reap consequence rather than reward - and just because some else is doing it doesn't mean that it’s a good idea.

Besides, all the good stuff gets locked away until its official release. I'm not going to publish my best ideas before they're ready to roll out. Be patient. Watch and wait. Simply wait for someone else to prove or disprove a concept so you don't have to. If they fail, learn from their mistakes. If they succeed, do it 10% better.

I think I might conjure a new (this time really twisted) idea just to see what they do.
